Florida megachurch pastor resigns over 'moral failing'

(Reuters) - The leader of a Florida megachurch has resigned after confessing to church administrators a "moral failing" preventing him from fulfilling his duties, according to a church statement over the weekend.

Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale, a branch of the California ministry founded in 1965, on Monday did not provide any additional details as to why the church's longtime pastor abruptly left the organization last week or why recordings of Bob Coy's sermons were no longer available on its website.

The church statement did not specify Coy's moral failing.

Coy, 58, moved to south Florida from Las Vegas in 1985 to found what became one of the nation's largest, fastest-growing churches with about 20,000 members and more than $135 million in assets.

The senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale resigned after confessing to cheating on his wife, which disqualifies him from continuing his leadership role at the church.

Bob Coy reportedly confessed to key leaders that he cheated on his wife Wednesday. A board meeting was called the next day, when he resigned ...

A churchgoer was brought to tears as she spoke to Local 10 about Coy's resignation.

"I'm very sad, but, you know, we're all sinners," she said ...

I thought that the Christian mantra is that all folks are sinners. It's inherited from Adam and Eve... Or is it just Eve? One never knows, does one?

Of course, this is just another exemplar of Christian hypocrisy, which appears to be rampant within the sect, if not within religion itself. The more holier their professions; the greater their hypocrisy.

So it goes.
