http://www.patheos.com/blogs/friendlyatheist/2013/11/25/in-sacramento-an-astounding-55-billboards-with-atheist-messages-will-go-up/There must be a sale on billboard space in Sacramento, California, because the Sacramento chapter of the Freedom From Religion Foundation just purchased enough of it to put up 55 billboards over the next month as part of a massive publicity push. Im almost positive that makes this the largest group of atheist billboards to ever go up at once. Each billboard features a local atheist (or family) along with a quotation of his/her choosing:
They are going up to let the fellow non-believers know they are not alone, said FFRF Sacramento President Judy Saint of Roseville.

dimbear: an early sortie in the war on Christmas? At least two have already been defaced by vandals. The usual messages, including a nice "Imagine."

Because of where I live, I have to drive to The San Joaquin to do all of my shopping for things like shoe laces. I was noticing just last week how many billboards all over down there have "rent me" signs posted on them.
It is nice to know that at least some of them in the north valley will finally be put to "good" use.

(146,218 posts)Where did you get the information about them being defaced? The articles I have been able to find say they are not scheduled to go up until after Thanksgiving (next Monday)
There were some billboards defaced in 2010.

(6,271 posts)Evidently some of the billboards went up early and at least two were quickly altered.
It could possibly be a confusion with the defacements that met the earlier campaign. We all know how it goes in internet land.
For the latest billboard controversy, the New Jersey folks are putting up some that look to be over the line, at least from here:

A billboard isn't the place for a complex thought, any more than a bumper sticker. Just my 2 cents.
