Beauty and Color: Scenes From Ethiopia

Ethiopia is home to more than 100 million people—the second most-populous nation in Africa. It is also composed of wildly varying landscapes, and an incredible diversity of ethnic and religious groups. Getty Images photographer Carl Court reports that “Lonely Planet recently ranked Ethiopia among the top ten 2017 world tourist destinations,” and that it earned more than $870 million from tourism in the first quarter of 2017 alone. Gathered here are a handful of recent images from across Ethiopia, showing just some of its people and regions.

So I've changed my mind. Western Europe has moved down the list to the No. 2 spot.

I. Must. See. Africa.

Those from Ethiopia were always so surprised when I expressed genuine interest in their culture. They are very special and unique. I wish I were healthy enough to travel there and experience the things about them that I personally have learned, watched and read over the years. I'd love to enjoy their cuisine since what I have been eating at Ethiopian restaurants and special treats brought by students to school over the past 25 years is incredible.

Yet another reason to visit.

My only real concern about visiting the country would be the heat!
