it is still the most beautiful place I have ever been

Last we were there there was no poverty, illiteracy, or homelessness. One guy was without a job on the whole island and everyone knew who he was.

Unfortunately - although prices have always been high - they have skyrocketed. Of course you can still get a guest house at a reasonable cost - the supreme pampering and luxury of a beach resort with breakfast including fresh caught fish, afternoon high-tea, and exquisite dinner overlooking the pink beaches and turquoise water is the ultimate.

Closest paradise to US, IMHO. And to get all the British charm so close to home amazing. Pompano Beach Club !

For those fortunate enough to go...

Was there twice, first in '68, and 'rushed' home to Chicago to help with the Dem chaos, second time on a 4th of July break, at a small, un-fancy place whose name I can't recall. Will NEVER forget the wonderfulness of swimming in lovely coves, like this one:

Where are you now? is it Maryland. I was amazed at how short the flight was from Boston. But, not the flight, the hotel $$$. One time we stayed at Salt Kettle Inn and it was lovely and reasonable

First time in Bermuda, lived and worked in Chicago; 2d trip, lived and worked in DC. Was a neat, short, inexpensive break from work in DC with my husband, MIGHT have been a gift of some sort, 20-something years ago. Visited Bermuda Railway Museum (I worked as a U.S. freight railroad regulator, so was on my mind!,) and bought a little back pack that I use to this day!

My folks took a cruise to Bermuda for their honeymoon (1954,) and unfortunately my to-be-adoptive mother suffered seasickness, just ONE test of her 'championness!'

is a horror ! I get violently ill - but despite having all the meds ready - I never got sick on the only cruise I have been on - Miami to southern Caribbean. But...waters much calmer. Cool about the railroad thing - have seen it but not visited.

I am so glad you posted this. Going to push to go back - perhaps next milestone anniversary.

I have been there 6 times - but the last time - we got caught in the middle of a horrible experience. Went for a wedding (my brother and hot-headed wife) and all stayed at Pompano. Lovely deal - horse-drawn carriages to the southern cliffs for the ceremony - doves released - just beautiful. The night after - they got into a huge fight and she took a cab to the airport and left. But, before that - she threw her custom designed wedding ring off the balcony onto the shrubs on the cliff below. We spent an entire day swimming out and climbing through the mess looking for it. Never found it. she was waiting on the connection layover in Atlanta for him - made up - and have been married 10 years now.

I'd never imagine they'd remain married!

WE separated (8 or so years ago,) and he died 2 years ago, so IF I return, would have to be with friends like you, Laura! Hope YOU get to return, and share pics!
