Watched a video some time back where a Goshawk just murdered a nest of unprotected soon to fledge Ospreys. It didn't kill them for food, it just killed all of them to make sure they were all dead, then flew away. One of the babies attempted to defend itself, but it was no match against an adult Goshawk. The others just waited their turn to die and didn't help the one who stood his ground. Even crows use the numbers to scare off predators.

I don't recall any other hawk acting is such a manner. All other hawks take what they need to survive or attack to ward off others in their territory. The Red Tailed hawk is known for its fearlessness. I watched an encounter over food between a Red Tail and a Goshawk. The Red Tail didn't take crap from the Goshawk, more than willing to turn the tables if it suited him. The Osprey should take a page out of that book. Red Tails don't assassinate other animals for sport though. They're just tough and fearless.

Now every time I spot an Osprey I wonder how they manage to survive at all in this world.
