Progress after 1 year back in the saddle

A year ago it was all I could do to ride 1/2 a mile and back. Yesterday I did 10 hill interval and today road 20 miles. I've been riding about 75 miles per week, but am working at getting some distance once a week. I'm wanting to have enough miles in my legs to complete a half century Tour de Cure diabetes ride in the fall.

It's still fun.

To frylock, I caught the end of the last stage of the California race. It was good but I liked your video better. It was the sound that made it real to me.

The second since my high school friend died of complications with a treatment for MS. Did about 65 in in the last week and have 11 days left. Hoping for cool weather and wind out of the North.

The closes one to me was rained out here. The other one would require driving 100 miles to get to the start so I've never looked into it. In my prime when I was riding more miles in a younger body I never road more that 50 miles in one day. Now at 66 with a lot of years of not riding I am thrilled to have done 21 miles in 1 hr 30 minutes. Also I did 95% in the drops with minimal hand numbness. I have a lot more core strength then when I started, so those muscles are taking some of the weight off my hands. It's a real plus for riding in the drops to have lost 40 pounds. When I first tried I didn't like my thighs pounding my gut So Thor if you put the hammer down on 6/11&12 give us a shout here at DU Bicycling on the 13th.

Yeah, it's 75 miles per day but there's very well stocked rest stops every 15-20 miles or so. And ours is fairly flat, just a few climbs.

I'm trying, struggling really, to get rid of my gut that gets in the way. My biggest problem is my sweet tooth. That said, I've put more miles on this spring, so I should be feeling good about my prep, but I'm as anxious as always. Cool, dry and winds out of the North are all I ask for...

The company I work for is the Corporate Sponsor, so it's the CH Robinson MS150.

If so, I plan to watch the peleton from several different locations. I'll be the guy with the sign that reads 'Don't be such a roadie'! Good luck and have fun in training for your Tour!
