But I wonder what prompted this? I want to have another reason to hate on him too

It was the ‘VIP’ gates of hell swinging open to receive such a good & faithful servant.

Dad was the total opposite. He won championships by coaching, mentoring, and encouraging his players. Years later they were still picking him up and taking him out for dinner and drinks. They openly wept at his funeral. He NEVER demeaned them.

At Dad's retirement party a Circuit Court Judge, who had played for a rival school, showed up to sing Dad's praises. (He wasn't on the invite list, but who was going to tell him no??) After a game that our team lost to his, Dad went to their locker room to congratulate them on a game well played. That moment stuck with this man for 30+ years. And he wasn't the only player from that team who told me that exact same story.

Northern (Dad) and Central (Jack) had the biggest rivalry in the county. They always played against each other on Thanksgiving.

They became fast friends. Jack went on to championships, too, at other schools. The game that was played the night the football field was named after my Dad, our home team played Jack's team - another BIG rival. We won, which was perfect, and Jack sprinted to Dad's side to give him a BIG hug. It was one of the most perfect nights, ever.

prior to the voir dire, the lawyer for the defense introduced himself as a diehard Bobby Knight fan apropos of nothing...when the DA asked me if I could be fair and unbiased I said probably not given I can't Bobby Knight and anything the defense counsel argues in his clients defense I will judge as suspect...Needless to say, I was dismissed..

Was that Bob Knight 'normalized' (for athletes, parents, institutions .. and on) a brand of coaching, and behavior, that should have no place in any sports - but especially in youth sports. (and, yes, I know there have been 'others' - but tell me that Bob Knight isn't largely responsible for a lot of the ridiculous 'coaching' you see in youth sports today)

The idea that you can treat young people (or any people really) worse than dogs - and it's going to be okay, if you get 'results'. What a sick version of human dynamics (and humanity) ... And what a disaster for a role model!

(grew up in Hoosierland. and even as a very young person - recognized a bully and boor for what he was.)
