Boston College, Michigan, Union and North Dakota got the No. 1 seeds in the four regionals when the brackets for the 2012 Division I mens tournament were released on Sunday.
The CCHA led the tournament with five teams in the field (Michigan, Miami, Ferris State, Western Michigan, Michigan State), with four for Hockey East (Boston College, Massachusetts-Lowell, Maine, Boston University) and the WCHA (North Dakota, Minnesota-Duluth, Minnesota, Denver).
Union and Cornell represent ECAC Hockey, while Air Force earned Atlantic Hockeys automatic bid.
Boston College returns to Worcester, Mass., from where it made the Frozen Four in 2006, 2008 and 2010.

(22,340 posts)I would love to see another championship in Grand Forks. Been a UND Hockey fan since I was a young'n. OK, so I grew up 30 miles from Grand Forks and got two degrees there.

(17,086 posts)They are good. I worked out in NW Iowa a bit, visited the UND campus.

Check back in during the playoffs!

(22,340 posts)rather than the idiocy of "you can change it" "no you can't" BS they are playing in the legislature. Time to move on. I live in WI now, though, and I'll admit it is fun going to the UND/UW game and hearing the "Racist Mascot" chants.
Looks from the bracket to be a good tournament. Possible UND/Minnesota rematch to see how Minnesota does round 2.

(56,177 posts)Notre Dame has been to the Frozen Four a few times this past decade...johnny-come-latelys? HA!

(17,086 posts)They have been around long enough. They were mediocre for so long they were under my radar until the last few years.
I guess I'll just have to hate on ND for it's own sake.
Are you a ND alumni, jb?
And since the basketball team always sucks come tournament time, I need a diversion this time of year!

(22,340 posts)Compare that to UND/Minnesota/Minnesota-Duluth. Then we are talking some real history.

(17,086 posts)Things didn't go so well for my team, Maine, but first, the two little guys that could:
Union beat Mass-Lowell 4-2 to advance to the Frozen Four in the East Regional! Never heard of Union? Me either.

In the Midwest Regional, mighty Ferris State knocked off Cornell 3-1 to punch it's first ticket to the Frozen Four!
Over in the West bracket, Minnesota had their way with Boston University, winning 7-3. The other match up was a bit closer, with North Dakota advancing to the West finals against Minnesota, after a 3-1 victory over Western Michigan. North Dakota and Minnesota play this afternoon at 4:30 CT (espnu/espn3).
In the Northeast Regional, top ranked Boston College blanked Air Force 2-0. The other contest saw my Maine Black Bears go down to last year's champions Minnesota-Duluth 5-2. The Black Bears got out to a 2-0 lead, until bluedigger started watching the game on espn3. They then proceeded to give up 5 unanswered goals (the last was an empty-netter) to lose 5-2. (Bluedigger is now accepting contributions not to watch and cheer for your team as the playoffs progress.) BC and M-D meet tonight at 8 ET (espnu/espn3).
