49ers make another dubious signing

Former Bronco Perrish Cox signs with 49ers

Former Broncos cornerback Perrish Cox didn't wait long for a second chance at an NFL career. Cox, who was found not-guilty on two counts of sexual assault earlier this month, has signed a two-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.

The 49ers announced the deal Tuesday for the embattled cornerback, just before free agency officially opened Tuesday afternoon. Cox was not with an NFL team after being released by the Broncos at the end of 2011's training camp so could sign with any team.

(snip)

A jury deliberated for a total of six hours in Douglas County District Court before issuing its verdict March 3.

Cox had been charged with one count of sexually assault on a helpless victim and one count of sex assault of a victim incapable of appraising conduct. Had he been convicted, Cox would have faced two years to life in prison....

The woman got pregnant. The embryo had Cox's DNA. And the woman aborted it.

It's a shame that the state didn't make a better case, but he's hardly the worst offender against decency in pro sports.

I'm sure the Niners got him for a good price...
