Dallas Rep. Colin Allred's two doubles help lead Democrats to victory in congressional baseball game

WASHINGTON — After a scare in practice, Dallas Rep. Colin Allred rallied from an injury Wednesday night to play for the Democrats in the annual congressional charity baseball game.

Allred’s staff had said he was questionable because of a strained calf, but the freshman lawmaker decided he was well enough to bat. He hit two doubles, one in the first inning and one in the fifth that scored a run, to help lead the Democrats to a 14-7 win.

It was their 10th win in the last 11 games.

Allred hit a fly ball in the third that Ohio Republican Rep. Anthony Gonzalez, another former NFL player, easily caught. He struck out looking in the sixth inning to finish 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI.
