Serena Williams recalls being in the position of young Dayana Yastremska, an ambitious and highly talented teenager overcome with emotion in the disappointment of defeat.

The 37-year-old progressed with ruthless efficiency but it was her grace towards the 18-year-old after the match that had a lasting impact, on her opponent at least.

Yastremska, who wasn’t even born when the American won her first major singles title in 1999, was in tears as she walked around the net to shake the hand of her childhood hero. She left the court lifted by Williams’ words.
