Former pitcher and World Series MVP John Wetteland arrested on child sex abuse charge
DENTON, TEXAS -- Former major league pitcher John K. Wetteland was arrested this week for allegedly sexually abusing a 4-year-old child in a Bartonville home for two years beginning in 2004, records show.
A probable cause affidavit shows Wetteland allegedly abused the child between 2004 and 2006. The abuse was carried out over three occasions inside Wettelands home in Bartonville, according to the affidavit.
Wetteland, who played on the Texas Rangers, was arrested and held in the Denton County Jail on Monday on a first-degree felony charge of sexually abusing a child under the age of 14. His bail was set at $25,000. Wetteland was released from the jail on Monday, records show.
While the affidavit does identify the victim, the Denton Record-Chronicle is not reporting that detail because the newspaper does not publish the names of victims of sexual abuse.
