SF Giants' home now called Oracle Park after AT&T split

Buster Posey, Brandon Crawford and their mates henceforth will play ball at Oracle Park.

The Giants on Thursday will announce a 20-year agreement with the Redwood City technology company to affix its name to their waterfront ballpark in San Francisco.

Terms of the deal are not being disclosed, but in an interview Wednesday, Giants President and CEO Larry Baer termed it “very much in line with other recent naming-rights deals for top-tier facilities.”

That could make it worth $300 million to $350 million, a significant increase over the roughly $100 million the Giants received over 23 years in the original naming-rights and marketing deal that they signed with an AT&T predecessor in 1996.

Good riddance AT&T ... a vile, scary and greedy-ass corporation if there ever was one.

Meanwhile, another $300 million paid for naming rights. Even if the money was spent on just educating people what Oracale did, it would be better than throwing it away on naming rights ($300 million would buy a lot of worthwhile promotion). Better yet, it could help a lot of people in so many ways. And that would be the best P.R. in the world.

1. There's only a few stadiums without corporate names.

There’s Fenway Park, Boston and
Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY and
Oriole Park @ Camden Yards, Baltimore

It seems every other stadium/ballpark is
“Big Corporate Stadium.” 😳

as I suspect Oracle will too. Meh.

Although it might be entertaining if Larry Ellison sails one of his rocket ship catamarans into McCovey Cove for a ball game.

Pac Bell Park beats Seal's Stadium, Candlestick, and Oakland Coliseum by a country mile. That is, until the seagulls descend on the park after the seventh inning stretch
