The SMU Mustangs' mascot, Peruna (actually a small Shetland pony), is the only college mascot known to have killed an opponents' mascot when it kicked the Fordham Ram in the head, killing it instantly. Peruna was named for a high-alcohol "tonic" popular during prohibition for its kick.
