Golden anniversary of Chamberlain's 100-point game

San Francisco Chronicle / 3-2-12

Wilt Chamberlain bragged about everything. It was part of his personality, part of his charm.

He bragged about his gourmet cooking, his endurance driving, his waterskiing and his babe-magnetism. He bragged about his assists and rebounds and blocked shots.

One thing he never bragged about was his 100-point game, which celebrates its 50th birthday tonight.

I had to look up to see when he died...1999...seems more recent than that.

Wilt Chamberlain may very well be the best athlete in any sport ever.

Wilt challenged Muhammad Ali to a boxing match. Wilt and Muhammad appeared together on ABC's Wide World of Sports.

Ali told Howard Cosell that he would be able to call the fight at ringside by using just one word -- "Timber!"

Luckily, Wilt came to his senses before being totally humilated by the greatest athlete in human history.
