Ex-USA Gymnastics head indicted in Texas on tampering charge at Karolyi ranch
HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Former USA Gymnastics president Steve Penny will face charges in Walker County.
Penny was arrested Wednesday in Gatlinburg, Tenn. by U.S. Marshals on third degree felony charges of tampering with evidence in Walker County. Penny is currently being held in Gatlinburg awaiting extradition.
The indictment came after a Walker County Grand Jury decision to continue the investigation of the Karolyi Ranch and those individuals who may have committed offenses related to the conduct of Dr. Larry Nassar at that location.
Nassar, who is presently serving a 40 to 175 year sentence in Michigan, was also indicted in Walker County on six second-degree felony counts of sexual assault of a child. The Karolyi Ranch is located in the Sam Houston National Forest southeast of Huntsville and is the former home of the USA Gymnastics National Training Center.
