The Cleveland Browns will name rookie Baker Mayfield their starting quarterback Monday, according to a report by Cleveland.com.
Browns coach Hue Jackson will announce Mayfield as the team's starter after meeting with the No. 1 overall draft pick and veteran Tyrod Taylor, according to the website.
Jackson has publicly stated that he will wait until Monday to announce his starter for Cleveland's next game, which is against the Oakland Raiders. Jackson has given the players the weekend off, and he does not want to announce his starter without first talking to the players.
Taylor was injured in Thursday night's game against the Jets and was replaced by Mayfield, who helped the Browns erase a 14-point deficit and record their first win since Dec. 24, 2016.

(33,643 posts)In our defense we did play Todd Gurley & the Rams, and then lil' Phillip Lindsay came outta nowhere and torched us. I've a feeling we aren't the only one's he's gonna do that to ...
I think the Raiders can keep Mayfield from having a big day though they'll likely still lose cause Brown's D is legit. At least we won't be the one's handing them their first win in like 27 years, so there's that.

(17,305 posts)Let's have a friendly wager. I don't think Mayfield will drop jaws against the Raiders' D but he'll keep the believers believing. Here's my prediction:
19/26 for 279 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT
I'll take the Raiders to win the game though, 27-24
What do you think?

(33,643 posts)I'm going to have to hedge a bit and say a lot of what I think happens next week ... depends on this week. If the Raiders pull out a road upset at Miami, the Coliseum will be bonkers for the Browns game, leading Hue to try to win more on the ground rather than expose his QB too much in his first start. If the Raiders lose, the mood will be more sullen and quieter at the OACC, facing going 0-4.
I go 16/26 for 240, 1TD, 1 pick if the Raiders win at Miami, Raiders win 21-17
If they lose, your passing #'s look good but I think the Browns win 20-13.
