Question: Regardless of age!
Great Kentucky team?
or
Greatest Kentucky team?
Cal can coach.
The quest is on ...

(4,069 posts)How could a one and done graduate. Call the NCAA and tell them of your concerns.

(29,582 posts)A more meaningful stat would be 'income after leaving college', since the reason to go to college is to enhance your employment prospects, (other than to get laid, which world-class athletes rarely have a problem with).
That stat would be impossible to compile but I suspect Cal's recruits do just fine, even the ones that don't end up playing pro ball.
Some schools have high graduation rates because of systems that were born of necessity. Dean Smith got the UNC gig because the school didn't like the image of Dick McGuire. His #1 job was to have a program with a squeaky clean image.
Dean's a hyper-competitive guy so he devised a system where he could win and be perceived as being clean. He sought out players with smarts and got lucky a few times. Roy Williams inherited the system.
Coach K got the Duke job because they consistently lost recruiting battles in the 70s. He was brought in because he was skilled at getting good results from players with limited athletic skills. If players like John Lucas or David Thompson had gone to Duke then they'd be like any other basketball factory and K would be a footnote.
Those schools aren't clean because they're noble. They're clean because it's a means to an end.

(53,475 posts)... when different teams/conferences operate under different rules.
I love college sports, but I'm disgusted with the discrepancies between what are "clean" and "dirty" programs. They should just pay all the players in the "revenue sports" and admit it's not about getting an education.

(29,582 posts)My opinion of him changed during last year's UNC game.
He outcoached the lily-white Roy Williams.
Maybe uber-talented players are drawn to him because he gives them the best chance of success, and not because he does anything unethical.
There will always be inequities in college sports. Schools have different admission standards, different budgets, locations, etc. (In case you've never been, Chapel Hill is beautiful and has generally great weather. No wonder it's easy to convince someone to live there).
Paying players wouldn't end the corruption, some teams would just find new ways to get around whatever rules were established.

(4,069 posts)Does not matter that some programs are under constant scrutiny and follow the NCAA rule book.
Some people, liberals included, will make these cheating-dirty-etc allegations with no proof but 'how they feel'.
I hate the fucking one and done but should a coach turn down instant All Americans because they will leave? FUCK NO
Remember the shitty NBA postponed their considerations on an age limit.
So haters pick up your bitch trophies and pat your double jointed asses on your own back.
Coach Cal has never been found guilty of violating the NCAA stupid fucking rulebook.
Do you think after the Billy Gullispie fuckup we would not vet Cal before hired?
Every year I hear this same old bullshit. Get yourselves fucking coaches that can coach.

(29,322 posts)went to 7-game series I think Kentucky would win(ignoring things like fatigue and injuries).
It only takes 1-loss but I think Kentucky has the best chance. Though they call it "madness" for a reason.

(4,069 posts)Lots of great teams have lost to teams they 'should' of beaten in the tournament.
My favorite was
There were two memorable games in the 1975 tournament. Number 2 ranked Kentucky upset previously unbeaten Indiana 92-90 in their regional final. The Hoosiers, coached by Bob Knight, were undefeated and the number one team in the nation, when leading scorer Scott May suffered a broken arm in a win over arch-rival Purdue. This was the only loss Indiana would suffer between March 1974 and December 1976.
That was my High School Class, knew lots of those guys, lost to UCLA in the final. The Wizards last game. Saw it in W Germany on AFN in the middle of the night on little black and white.

Much ado etc.
You can start a much better thread than that one. I will be waiting.

(29,582 posts)It's not an internecine squabble.
It's a power-made ref gone berserk.
Or it's a douchebag ex-jock that thinks he can get away with anything.
Your call.

(3,269 posts)Mizzou vs. Kansas at Kansas. The last time they play in the Big 12. And, for now, the end to a bitter rivalry that had its bloody roots in the Civil War. Mizzou is going to the SEC. Kansas, for now, says they will refuse to schedule games with them.
