Mike Ilitch has died.

To say that the city of Detroit is in collective shock right now might be an understatement. He'll be missed.

He did a lot for the Red Wings franchise. Glad he won a Stanley Cup before his demise. RIP.

2. He really wanted to see his other team, the Tigers win the World Series, too.

I went to a game the day the Tigers' ownership switched from Tom Monaghan (Domino's guy) to Ilitch (Little Caesar's guy) Hilariously they'd covered up all the Domino's signs with Little Caesar's banners that looked like they'd been printed up at Kinkos!

He also built up the theatre district - he's done a lot for the city. And he's an amazing owner. Everyone who's ever worked for him loved him. They have a new arena in the works for the Wings, too. He didn't live to see it completed.

I think his kids will carry on as usual, they've been involved for a long time. People are calling sports radio in Detroit right now with all these great personal stories.
