Carrs broken leg overshadows Raiders victory

The Raiders’ Super Bowl ambitions took a severe hit Saturday when quarterback Derek Carr broke his right leg early in the fourth quarter of Oakland’s 33-25 victory over the Colts at the Coliseum.

Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said Carr will undergo surgery on his fibula Sunday and is out indefinitely

“It feels like we lost the game,” linebacker Bruce Irvin said. “We lost our leader.”

The Pro Bowl quarterback was injured when he was sacked by Indianapolis linebacker Trent Cole in a violent, twisting manner that left Carr immediately calling for team trainers to come on the field with 10:55 to go.

Del Rio and defensive end Khalil Mack walked out on the turf as well, as the crowd chanted “M-V-P” for the injured quarterback.

Carr couldn’t put any weight on his ankle, and was helped off the field, then was carted inside about 10 minutes later. Teammates said a teary-eyed Carr told them, “It’s broken.”

Carr's foot was, unfortunately, too planted.

I recorded the game and had a chance to review two days later. He has become such a skilled QB in the way he sees and senses the field. His passes almost always are thrown with perfect touch and accuracy. His mechanicals look fluid and second nature.

I abhor the Patriots and Chiefs. And dammit, their road in the playoffs just got a lot easier.

Raiders could have survived losing Mack, Irvin, Cooper, Murray, Penn etc ... but I'm not sure about losing Carr. They need the running game and a shut-down the defense now more than ever.
