American Southwest Conference rankings (Week 2)

1. Mary Hardin-Baylor (2-0) — The No. 5 Crusaders looked impressive once again in a 56-21 drubbing of what was expected to be a solid Texas Lutheran squad. They'll get their biggest test to date this week when they host the No. 3 Linfield Wildcats.

2. Hardin-Simmons (1-0) — The No. 12 Cowboys, who were idle last week, have a glorified scrimmage Saturday against a Southwestern Assemblies of God squad that East Texas Baptist beat 85-23. We'll get a much better gauge of how good this HSU team is next week when it opens its home schedule against TLU.

3. East Texas Baptist (2-0) — The Tigers, ranked 18th in the D3football.com national poll, have looked outstanding so far, scoring blowout victories over TLU and SAGU. This week, they'll host an improved Southwestern team that lost to HSU 26-3 and beat McMurry 24-17.

4. Louisiana College (1-1) — The Wildcats, who picked up their first win of the season last week against Texas College (48-27), will try to prove they belong in the ASC title picture with the three schools above them this week when they play TLU at home. After next Saturday, the Bulldogs will have played each of the league's top four teams, giving us a solid measuring stick by which to judge them.
