Jon Heyman of Todays Knuckleball reports that Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig has been claimed on waivers by an as-yet unknown team. The Dodgers can now attempt to work out a trade with the claiming team, or simply give that team Puig. In that case, the claiming team would assume the responsibility for the remainder of Puigs seven-year, $42 million contract, which has two years and $14 million left.
The Dodgers can also pull him back from waivers if they cant work out a deal, but that would mean Puig would be ineligible to be traded for the rest of the season.
August 31 is the deadline for teams to acquire players on waivers and still have them become eligible for the postseason roster.

Think next year. Pagan is a free agent.
I seriously doubt management would add a trouble-maker to a famously cool clubhouse. But it's fun to speculate.

(29,322 posts)Dodgers To Pull Back Yasiel Puig From Waivers
August 31st, 2016 at 1:23pm CST By Jeff Todd
The Dodgers will pull back outfielder Yasiel Puig after he was claimed on revocable waivers, per Jon Heyman of Fan Rag (via Twitter). His rights had been claimed by an unknown organization, which left Los Angeles with the ability either to negotiate a trade, allow that team to assume the contract, or instead revoke the claim and retain Puigs rights.
L.A. was never expected to reach a deal involving Puig this month, and ESPN.coms Jim Bowden confirmed earlier today that no swap was likely (via Twitter). Los Angeles will instead reconsider a deal in the winter, though there is at least some reason to believe that Puig could play a role at the major league level down the stretch.
The organization that won the waiver claim on Puig was primarily looking to play a blocking role rather than trying to strike a deal, per Bowdens report. Of course, working out a swap for the talented but questionably reliable 25-year-old figured to be easy.

I'm really curious who the team was.

Losing ground in the divisional race, the Orioles are looking for waiver wire trades according to a report from Buster Olney (ESPN Insider). Unfortunately for them though, the Yankees have been aggressive in making [waiver] claims which has limited the Orioles ability.
With just three days remaining for the Orioles to add players to their roster who would be able to play in the postseason, the scramble is on. However, the Yankeeswho are lower in the standingshave priority on waiver claims. That means that any player put on waiversincluding revocable onesmust first pass through every team lower in the standings than the Orioles in order for the Orioles to be able to work out a deal.

Also there are news that the White Sox made a claim but didn't get it which means a NL or lower ranked AL team was awarded.
