Related: About this forumTony Romo has fractured vertebra in back, may miss 6-10 weeks
FRISCO, Texas -- Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has suffered a broken bone in his back, and sources confirmed to ESPN on Saturday that he could miss six to 10 weeks.
The source told ESPN that the injury -- suffered on the third play of the preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks on Wednesday -- is a compression fracture of L1 vertebra. A source also told ESPN NFL Insider Ed Werder that Romo would not require surgery.
Coach Jason Garrett, who announced the injury on a conference call Saturday, said the injury would not cost Romo the season and he declined to rule out the quarterback for the regular-season opener against the New York Giants on Sept. 11.
CBS Sports first reported that Romo would miss up to 10 weeks.
Romo had an MRI on Friday, and the results were learned later that night.
If Romo cannot play, rookie fourth-round pick Dak Prescott will start against the Giants.

That really sucks for Romo. At this point, you have to wonder how many times he's going to choose to expose himself to further injury. Dak looked good the other night, I hear, so they got that going for 'em.

OP
At least he got his major injury out of the way before the start of the season.

Now the Cowpies won't have to scramble to get another Brandon Weedon.
