The latest in a series of ESPN Outside The Lines reports Wednesday chronicling Baylor football violence named 10 former players who, over the past five years, have been involved or are alleged to be involved in altercations with women or other students. Many of them were involved in multiple altercations or assault allegations. Severe discipline rarely was a consequence for those players, according to the report....
But beyond the bad look for school leadership starting with president Ken Starr, who seems to have left his famously potent moral outrage behind in the 1990s Baylor allegedly appears to have a willing off-campus partner in some of that enabling and subterfuge: the Waco police...
But in Baylors case, there is an added wrinkle: hiding police reports from people who might want to know whats actually going on with the Bears and the law. The OTL report mentioned one case file involving football players that was pulled from the Waco police computer system, and the report was placed in a locked office. That was due to the potential high-profile nature of the incident.
This doesnt seem to square with Starrs quote in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram last month: I am in favor of transparency. But I guess Starr isnt running the Waco cop shop.
