Dallas police announce criminal investigation of Manziel
Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is the subject of a criminal investigation regarding a domestic violence complaint, Dallas police announced late on Friday.
"Today the Dallas Police Department received a complaint of a domestic violence assault that occurred in Dallas on January 30, 2016," the police said in a statement.
"A criminal investigation into the incident, in which Johnathan Manziel is the listed suspect, has been initiated.
"As there are many emotional factors involved, it is not uncommon for a victim of domestic violence to question or delay reporting an assault."

(29,673 posts)Former NFL quarterback and infamous San Diego Chargers draft bust Ryan Leaf told The Dan Patrick Show Friday that he sees himself in troubled Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel.
I feel like Im holding up a mirror. Thats how I behaved. Leaf told Patrick. While Leaf says he did not develop substance abuse issues until after his brief NFL career was over, the No.2-overall draft pick in 1998 can relate to Manziel in how quickly a career can evaporate. He says hes fine and hes been to treatments
when this happened, I thought it was a great thing, Leaf said. Imagine if I would have gone and got behavior counseling early in my career. You have to be out of football for a year. You have to get your stuff right because, though this is a great game and the NFL is an institution, its fleeting. Its gone in a second.
Leaf told Patrick that the addiction to painkillers that led to his 2012 arrest got bad enough that I was willing to walk into peoples homes and take their pills. The best thing that ever happened to me was being put in jail. After completing a chemical dependency program as part of his sentence, Leaf got out of prison in 2014 and is now working for an addiction recovery program.
Leaf's journey seems especially poignant as we watch Peyton Manning, the one player picked ahead of him in 1998, start in Super Bowl 50 in what is likely Manning's last game. At the time of that draft, many football evaluators thought Leaf was the more talented of the two quarterbacks and few players have ever seen such a precipitous fall from grace. If the comparison to Leaf does not scare Manziel straight as he sees the contrast in those two careers, possibly nothing can save Johnny Football.
