RIP Angelo Dundee

[IMG][/IMG]

Legendary boxing trainer Angelo Dundee died today. He was 90 years old.

Dundee is best known for training heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali. After Ali's retirement, Angelo trained Sugar Ray Leonard, George Foreman (on his comeback), and others. Before Ali, Dundee had trained several world champions.

One of my brothers had the opportunity to stay in Ali's training camps a few times. He thought the world of Dundee. My son (pictured above with Angelo) and I had the opportunity to meet him a few times at the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

is very good. Bert Sugar co-wrote it, and in a few places, one reads Bert's thinking, not Angelo's. But it is definitely worth reading.

"To me, he was the greatest ambassador for boxing, the greatest goodwill ambassador in a sport where there's so much animosity and enemies," said Bruce Trampler, the longtime matchmaker who first went to work for Dundee in 1971. "The guy didn't have an enemy in the world."

How could he, when his favorite line was, "It doesn't cost anything more to be nice."
