Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes arrested in Hawaii for assault, according to report
Reyes is due $48 million over the next two seasons
Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes was arrested on Halloween for allegedly assaulting his wife in their hotel room in Wailea, Hawaii, according to a report from Hawaii News Now.
Reyes, a four-time all-star, was traded to the Rockies in late July, coming over from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.
Reyes, 32, is now out on bail, according to the television station. According to the broadcast report, Reyes was arrested after his wife told police that Reyes grabbed her by the neck and shoved her into a sliding-glass door.
"We were extremely disappointed and concerned to learn of the allegations involving Jose Reyes. We continue to gather information and will address this matter appropriately, in accordance with Major League Baseball's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy," said the Colorado Rockies in a statement on twitter.
Reyes could become the first player subject to Major League Baseball's domestic violence policy, which was agreed upon by MLB and the players' association in August. For the first time since collective bargaining began, the MLB commissioner is empowered to discipline individual players for acts of domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse.
