Not even the College Football Playoff committee can help Alabama if it loses to LSU

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/not-even-the-college-football-playoff-committee-can-help-alabama-if-it-loses-to-lsu-231854511.html

Part of the beauty of being Alabama is that you never have to apologize for a loss. There's always an explanation for why it shouldn't be held against the Crimson Tide.

There seems to be someone ever-ready to offer a rationalization for the occasional Tide stumble. Or, in the latest case, a committee of someones.

The College Football Playoff selection committee this week scrubbed the résumés of all the top teams, eyeballed 'Bama's 43-37 home loss to Mississippi and collectively said, "So what?" It ranked the Tide No. 4 in its first top 25 of 2015 – and while early November rankings don't mean much, it's an awfully cushy starting spot for a program that is accustomed to getting its way.

'Bama's No. 4 ranking must have raised some eyebrows in Gainesville. Florida is No. 10, despite having beaten that same Ole Miss team by four touchdowns two weeks after the Rebels won in Tuscaloosa.

I think you'll probably only see 1 SEC team, it will be the one that wins the SEC championship. You'll get the big 10 winner, probably the big 12 winner and the ACC winner.

I'd predict Ohio State, Clemson, Baylor and LSU (not exactly going out on a limb with those picks). I expect LSU to beat them and wouldn't be shocked to see Bama lose to Miss St.

The only thing that might fuck this all up is a big 12 circle jerk where Baylor, Ok St. and TCU all take a loss against each other.

I think Stanford still has a loss in them, and Utah won't get any love from the committee even if they run the table from here on out.

now that the first-string broke his neck. They barely squeaked by a weak Kansas State team 31-24 on Thursday and they get to the meat of their schedule with Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas over the next few weeks. I'm leaning more towards TCU in this situation.

I could easily see injuries being the deciding factor in the big 12.

The cynic in me thinks Alabama is in the Top 4 just to agitate people and draw interest to the sport. Alabama will be in the playoff if they defeat LSU and win out. Florida is likely in that same spot as well. A one-loss SEC Champion won't be left out of the playoff.

I do applaud the committee for not going the traditional route and just putting in the undefeated teams. If you think Alabama is better and Baylor hasn't had any significant victories, put the Tide in. And this is coming from a Gators and Dolphins fan who couldn't have more antipathy towards Saban.
