Police dog dies in cruiser at PGA Whistling Straights.......

HAVEN, Wis -- A police dog of the Brown County Sheriff's Department died at Whistling Straits on Thursday. The K-9 officer, named Wix, was part of the security team at the PGA Championship.

The Sheriff's Office announced the passing on Thursday afternoon.

"Wix was a valuable member of this agency and community and will be sadly missed by all."

According to the Sheriff's Office, the dog died of heat exhaustion while in one of the police cruisers. The car was running and the air conditioning was on when last checked by an officer in the morning.

However, when Wix was found unresponsive in the afternoon, the AC unit had crashed. A K-9 heat alarm system, which is supposed to roll down the windows if the car becomes overheated, also failed.

Brown County is lending its services to Sheboygan and Whistling Straits for the PGA Championship. Brown County Sheriff’s Office said Wix, a Malinois, had been with the department since 2014.

Wow, this is a bummer. And, it wasn't even hot up there. Why didn't he just leave the windows part open?

Also, is it a good idea to leave the dog in there all day?
