Texans running back Arian Foster to have surgery Friday, expected to miss half of season

Center Ben Jones was almost nauseous when he learned running back Arian Foster had suffered a groin injury so severe it would require surgery.

“For an offensive lineman, Arian’s your best friend because he can do so many things,” Jones said after Wednesday’s practice. “You never want to lose a guy like that. He’s a heck of a teammate, and I feel for him.”

Foster will undergo surgery in Philadelphia on Friday. Dr. William C. Meyers, who has operated on hundreds of professional athletes and is one of the nation’s foremost experts on core muscle injuries, will perform the surgery.

There’s no timetable for Foster’s return. He’s expected to be placed on short-term injured reserve. That means he would be eligible to practice after Week 6 and play after Week 8.

Good enough to be unlikely to select a good to great quarterback, but not good enough to be a title threat.
