Border Collie Named Tex Wins Westminster Dog Agility Contest

A border collie named Tex sped, jumped and climbed to a win Saturday at the Westminster Kennel Club agility contest.

Tex beat a field of 330 dogs while a husky mix named Roo! repeated to earn a separate award for the highest-scoring mixed-breed dog.

Tex is owned and handled by Rose Savkov of Long Valley, New Jersey. Roo! is owned and handled by dog trainer Stacey Campbell of Menlo Park, California.

Added just last year, agility is a fast-growing element of the nation's premiere dog show. The number of competitors grew by more than 45 percent this year, even though the club made it tougher this year to qualify, requiring hopefuls to have a higher level of agility titles.

Could have beaten Tex with one paw tied behind her back. That's a fact, Jack.

The taped TV coverage just finished on FS1.

Tex, a 5-year-old Border Collie owned and handled by Rose Savkov of Long Valley, New Jersey, won the second Masters Agility Championship at Westminster Saturday night before a full house at Pier 94 in New York City.

The prize for the Best All-American (mixed breed) dog was again won by Roo!, a 7 1/2 year-old Husky mix owned and handled by Stacey Campbell of Menlo Park, CA.

The agility event was the opening act of Westminster Kennel Club weekend, which continues Monday and Tuesday with its 139th Annual All Breed Dog Show.
