CBS Sports says she's "Lindsay" Vonn, but "Lindsey" seems to be the right spelling.

For American fans of ski racing this is a momentous day, because an American who took up the sport on a 300-foot hill in a suburb of Minneapolis as a little girl is now the winningest woman in the history of a sport traditionally dominated by Europeans who hail from the Alps where the sport was invented.

Lindsey Vonn got win No. 63 Monday in a super-G at Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, in front of her parents and boyfriend Tiger Woods, who surprised her with his presence.

That was the surprise of the day, because there was little suspense left in Vonn's chase of the record held for 35 years by Austria's Annemarie Moser-Proell. After Vonn's record-tying win in downhill on Sunday, it seemed inevitable she would break the record before coming to home to compete in the world alpine championships at Beaver Creek in two weeks.

Lindsey Vonn celebrates on the podium after winning an alpine ski, women's World Cup super-G, in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, Monday, Jan. 19, 2015.

She's originally from Minnesota, married to a former pro ski racer, as cute as a button, and clearly has the moxie of a Marine battalion. If there isn't a photo of her using a bong, they'll be calling her "Tiger Woods on skis" before you know it!

Well, I almost got it right: There isn't a photo of her using a bong (a reference to Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps), but there IS one of her Tebowing. And now she's DATING Tiger Woods!

I think that paying to watch television is evidence of a moral failure, so I only watch what I can get over the air. I bought my first analog-to-digital converter boxes in the summer of 2008. Back then, Universal Sports was one of the offerings from the local NBC affiliate. I loved to watch ski jumping, especially the Four Hills events, and the downhill races. Universal Sports has not been available locally for the last few years, so I no longer see all those great winter events.
