Johnny Manziel threw a party Friday night that was attended by multiple members of the Cleveland Browns, triggering a tumultuous weekend during which several players were punished by the team, according to multiple reports.
Receiver Josh Gordon, who was suspended Saturday for a violation of team rules, was one of the players in attendance, according to cleveland.com.
The Browns also fined Manziel on Saturday for being late for treatment on his injured hamstring, a source told ESPN. Less than 24 hours later, rookie cornerback Justin Gilbert was deactivated for Sunday's season finale against the Baltimore Ravens after missing a team meeting the previous night, a source told ESPN.
Both Manziel and Gordon were absent from the Browns' walk-through on Saturday morning, and the team had trouble locating them, a source close to the team told ESPN.

Seriously?
I've had it with this douchebag. So should the Browns. I was willing to give Manziel a break on the football field because he was a rookie. But this behavior is too much. He's a cancer. Kick his ass off the team, take the losses, lick the wounds, and move on.

(56,177 posts)football more seriously? You're right, his DNA is hardwired for douchebagginess...he's never gonna change and they need to look elsewhere.

They gave the last wild card slot to the Ravens. Yes, he is a douchebass.

(29,322 posts)A good sign is his teammates like him enough to attend a party he is throwing. Building friendships is important for a team.
I'm not sure how to view this, a friend who I knew but didn't well invited to come with him in to visit his girlfriend's family in Federal Way and this was during a rough patch. On the drive back her dad had some weed that was the color purple, never saw it before but it was the best ever.
The next day my company (military) threw a 100% urine test and it was a start of pushing it when it came to cutting it close when it came to minor infractions but I was so glad I did. I really didn't know what a real friend was, he'd show support when I needed, tell me advice when he felt I needed which was usually wise, and also gave me criticism when I needed but it was helpful rather than resentful. He'd sometimes do things like drink until 2 hours morning formation. He worked for HHD so he showed up to PT formation "on time" while I was so concerned about "10 minutes prior", even flooding near Lacey wasn't a good excuse for showing up 8 minutes prior
You give everything and put nothing else besides the "mission" (whether its mindless details or something actually productive) but when it came to time & support needed to handle & take care of issues on my end (after a 1 year tour) it was a different story. They'll do things like claim you can't claim "field loss" than let you know a half-year later it is "too late" to claim field loss. I made some valuable friendships in a time I needed it & wouldn't change it for anything in the world.
Doesn't mean any of this applies, besides the Army would have a different view and Browns are expected to put the effort & dedication necessary to win champions. Also, while Manziel is the cause since it was his party I don't know how Gordan or Gilbert contribute but the "missing & having trouble locating" reminds me so much of the Army and it wasn't always a bad thing, especially if it helps future team chemistry. I'd wait this one out and see how it plays out.

(31,174 posts)Manziel hasn't shown much enthusiasm for practice the entire year. I'll guess he and Gilbert thought they could rely on their college talent which, as has been well documented by others, is hardly enough to cut it in the NFL. Gilbert admits he "messed up" by exhibiting what sources close to the team said were serious attitude issues and by being frequently late to meetings.
The Browns expect these guys to show some discipline, focus and maturity in return for the money they're paid. As to their status, owner Jimmy Haslam says they're "on thin ice."
But I think Manziel is beyond hope. Browns could make an example of him and eliminate a problem they shouldn't have drafted in the first place.

(9,350 posts)I think most Texans fans will disagree with me, but I think the Texans would be a good fit for him. It was reported that his family did not want him in Houston because they thought he would be too close to Texas A&M. It seems they thought the bad influences were at Texas A&M. However, I think with the coach and players in the Texans organization he would shape up really fast. Bill O' Brian seems to be a tough coach and most of the players on the team are serious, hard working veterans. I could be very wrong, but I do not think Johnny Manziel would be able to pull this type of stuff, or would want to pull it in Houston.
