Manziel flips bird to Washington sideline

LANDOVER, Md. -- Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel extended his middle finger toward the Washington Redskins bench after a third-quarter incompletion during Monday night's 24-23 preseason loss.

Manziel flipped the bird toward the Redskins after the play that unfolded in front of Washington's bench.

Manziel said he had "words exchanged" with the Redskins and that he should have been smarter.

"I felt like I did a good job of holding my composure throughout the night, and you have a lapse of judgment and slip up," Manziel said.

A bad week just got a bit worse for Johnny Manziel.

The Browns rookie quarterback received a $12,000 fine from the NFL for an obscene hand gesture during Monday's 24-23 preseason loss to the Redskins, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Manziel extended his middle finger at the Washington bench following a third-quarter incompletion.

Manziel expressed remorse for what he described as "a lapse of judgment" in his postgame interview, particularly since ESPN cameras caught it, but Browns coach Mike Pettine wasn't in a forgiving mood.

“It does not sit well,"Pettine told reporters following the Monday Night Football broadcast. "I was informed of it after the game. It’s disappointing, because what we talk about is being poised and being focused, that you have to be able to maintain your poise. That’s a big part of all football players, especially the quarterback. We have to keep our composure. That’s something that we’ll obviously address with him.”

Twelve grand? Why even bother?!

for a goalpost dunk!

https://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/saints-tight-end-jimmy-graham-fined--30-000-for-goal-post-dunks-190402838.html

It's a good thing New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham got his contract situation figured out, because the NFL just took a decent chunk of it away.

Graham was fined $30,000 by the NFL for dunking the football over the goal post twice in last Friday's preseason game, according to numerous sources including the New Orleans Advocate. The NFL actually took it easy on him. As the Advocate pointed out, he could have been fined a little more than $33,000 based on the league's rules for unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.

People will compare this hefty fine to Johnny Manziel getting a $12,000 fine for an obscene gesture on Monday night, but it's no surprise the NFL didn't go too easy on Graham. The NFL made a rule outlawing the dunk celebration, and it was known as the "Jimmy Graham Rule," because he and retired Tony Gonzalez were the two players who did it most. Graham got a 15-yard penalty for his first violation in last Friday's game. He clearly was sending a message after he did it a second time in the game, getting another penalty. The NFL's schedule for fines is about $11,000 for the first unsportsmanlike penalty and about $22,000 for the second, and Graham gave the league little choice but to fine him close to the full amount.

Lebron has a couple of rings, and he's lost a few championships too, but there's no poking holes in Johnny Football's resume.

17. Racist team?!

The name is racist. None of the current players were even born when the team was named that. Are you suggesting that a player drafted by Washington should refuse to play for them because of the name, and give up his lifelong dream of playing in the NFL?!
