http://blog.sfgate.com/sfmoms/2014/03/24/people-attack-cbs-for-zooming-in-on-tearful-young-kansas-university-fan/One young boy looked more devastated than anyone else. Tears streamed down from his blood-shot eyes and over his flush cheeks as the Cardinal knocked down the Jayhawks.
A CBS camera crew spotted the sullen fan in the last minute of the game when Kansas was down seven. They zoomed in for an extended shot and the boys tearful face appeared on national television. Twitter erupted. Many attacked CBS and accused the TV network of harassing the child....
At the end of the game, CBS went back in for another close-up. Twitter exploded.

(14,689 posts)That was ridiculous. Expect to see it again in "One Shining Moment". I get it. Kid loves his Jayhawks and they were losing.
But my biggest problem with the telecast was the unctuous Jim Nantz. When Kansas was down 7, he went on one of his "Get off my lawn" soapboxes about this being a team game. If you included the Masters theme music, it would have been a perfect Nantz rant. I don't usually root for Kansas, but the one reserve for Kansas promptly hit two 3's and closed the deficit to 1. Imagine Kansas had come back to win.
Not that Nantz is particularly wrong in this regard, but I'm so sick of the bias against one and done players. I say make players stay 2 years, but the coaches and university can guarantee their first pro contract if they get injured or don't perform up to par. It's easy for millionaires like Barkley and Nantz to say that a kid should pass up millions and wait a year.

Bill Self is entitled to make millions of dollars, and be the highest paid public employee in the state of Kansas (a state that doesn't fund education, and is an all around "low tax, low service" hell-hole), but Andrew Wiggins (and every other college player), is expected to spend the next four years of their lives flat broke, risking injury, and playing for free. Any objections will get these players accused of being "greedy" and greed is bad when you're labor, but good when you exploit it...
Oh well, at least they'll "slap the court" and "play the game the way it was meant to be played!!!" Whatever the hell that means.
But yeah, Nantz is a typical clueless millionaire with his head up his ass. Maybe if he blows Billy Payne in Butler cabin, on camera at the end of this year's Masters he'll finally be invited to join Augusta National.
