Opening Day reminder for Dodgers Fans: First pitch, 1:00 AM, Saturday

Dodgers & D-Backs open the 2014 MLB season in Sydney Australia. If you care to listen in, first pitch is at 1:00 AM Saturday morning in Southern California and Arizona.

I can't make sense of it either.

This could very well be a season to remember, so of course it has to start this way.

First, it's drawing the short straw and being forced to play in the stupid ass overseas series. This means the Dodgers have to start the real season more than a week before all but one other club, cutting the roster down to 25, playing two games, and then coming back to Arizona to play a few more spring training games (Imagine an NFL team having to play their week one game in mid August, cutting the roster down to 53, only to be forced to play another two pre-season games in the weeks following). Second, there's the TV cluster fuck. 70% of people in the southland cannot see these games because Time Warner has yet to reach a deal with any other provider. Many people have suggested that the channel be offered a-la-carte, however, that's not going to happen because like with every other RSN, besides the games, there is nothing else worth watching on these channels.

Unfortunately, these new billion dollar team specific sports nets are the new reality for obvious reasons.

. . .there were a LOT of people at that game. And, they really applauded the right things and the right time. Aussies know baseball, apparently.

I know there have been several MLB guys from down under. So, they must play there, but i was impressed by the turn out and the enthusiasm.
