Related: About this forumDenver Pioneers use big second half to beat Ohio State in men's lacrosse
Freshman attack Zach Miller amassed a career-high five goals and senior goalie Jamie Faus was spectacular in the second half Saturday as the ninth-ranked University of Denver defeated Ohio State 9-5 at Barton Stadium.
The Pioneers, who have advanced to the NCAA Final Four in two of the last three seasons, blew open a tight 3-3 game with a 6-1 run after halftime. Miller mixed in three goals and two assists in the second half and Faus stopped five of the first six shots he faced. Faus faced 10 shots overall, stopping eight.
Junior Ryan LaPlante started in goal for DU and stopped 5-of-8 shots in the first half.
Denver is 6-2 and begins Big East Conference play March 22 against visiting Rutgers. Ohio State, who still play in the Pioneers' former conference, the ECAC, fell to 1-5.

My alma mater (Southwestern University) started the first NCAA varsity team (Div. III) in Texas. There even was a year that we won the Texas Conference beating both UT and Texas A&M. And yes, we are capable of beating lacrosse teams from the East Coast and the Midwest as we showed today when we beat Hope College (Michigan) 11-6.

I grew up in a place called Cockeysville, Md., which is well known to any lax fan. I played longstick defenseman. They called me "the Animal".
