Not sure yet about this hire.
I have a feeling bears and packers fans are rejoicing right now...

(49,533 posts)but gave him Curtis Painter instead, he'd have a tough time winning games.
But even before that, he seemed too conservative. He sat the starters when the team was 14-0 and the Colts never seemed hungry enough after that; his second season they were 10-6 and lost in the wild card round.
His last season, nobody was going to will the Colts into a winning team.
He's almost the anti-Schwartz; perhaps the Lions need some level-headed calm.

(56,177 posts)Any change usually helps a team...the second half of the season and the second season (if he survives) usually tells you if the coach is actually having an effect.

(12,336 posts)It seems that Detroit is a death knell for NFL head coaches. The last five or six coaches who have been there have never found another head coaching job in the NFL. I see no reason to believe that Caldwell will be any different.

(29,322 posts)His offenses work and w/ Stafford and Johnnson I don't see why they won't be successful.

Caldwell is a pretty level guy and might get his players to act like professionals. With their talent, that can only help.
