And Peyton Manning has the all time record 54 TDs.
And he needs only about 70 more passing yards to break that record.

(16,113 posts)The sports forum periodically has discussions on this whenever some team loses in a ridiculously lopsided game. Personally, I don't think there's such thing as "running up the score" in the NFL, but I recall in 2007 (and several times since) it has a somewhat popular topic here.

(13,324 posts)Which works out to nearly 10 points a quarter - how many times did these guys punt all year?

(16,113 posts)It looks like GB, Buffalo, NO and SD punted fewer times, though given the offensive struggles some of those teams had, they had more of a need to "go for it" on 4th down.

(13,324 posts)Barring a regression to a more conservative offense, like in the 70's or the late 80's/early 90's, I would bet that some team in the next decade will have an even more absurd season...

(16,113 posts)the passing game has become much more prominent than it used to be. Yes, Manning's numbers are very impressive, but I wouldn't be shocked to see these numbers eclipsed by someone (maybe even Manning himself) in the next few years.
