Jacoby Ellsbury is a "trader"

from Deadspin:

Free agent outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has agreed to a deal with the Yankees. He used to play for the Red Sox. In case you are an alien or a baby born today who just learned how to use a computer, the Red Sox and Yankees are big rivals. Anyway, Boston fans are mad about Ellsbury being a traitor for switching teams. If only they could spell.

1. I don't understand why people in Boston are THAT pissed.

They knew Ellsbury was going to play for the team that offered him the most money, that it most likely wouldn't be the Red Sox, and that it was a real possibility that it would be the Yankees. It seems like most people who've been paying attention to such things knew this at least 2 years ago. Ellsbury isn't worth 20+ million a year, but whoever got him was going to have to overpay. The Yankees are in the best position to be able to overpay a player.

Yes, "it's a business" when a team lets a popular go, but it's also a business for the player too.

I didn't think they'd overpay, but they're stupid enough to. He went where the money was...like Papelbon...look how well that worked out for that teabagger.

5. I'm not that shocked he went to the Yankees.

The Yankees don't have enough $20 million dollar players in their outfield. On the up-side for the Yankees, the HUGE money long term deal for Ellsbury will probably work out better than the HUGE money long term deals they signed with Giambi, Arod, Teixiera and A. J. Burnett.

Also, I sort of read a while back that no one was really interested in Jacoby, not in him, but not really a need for an outfielder...oh well, as long as A-Fraud is able to come back next year, Satan is screwed, so no matter what they do, they'll stink.

I only have two Red Sox player tees - one for Ells, and one for 'tek. Who should I update to? Big Papi can't have more than a couple years left...

Always liked him, though.

Pedey is great, but he's so small, it would feel awkward to me somehow to champion the little guy - I'm tall. I guess he would be a safe enough lock for the remainder of the decade...

Yaz was my Very First Sports Hero!

I looked for a Yaz tee but didn't find one. Ells' is marked down into Carl Crawford territory, though. Xander Bogaerts' costs more!

a few years back. The lady at the gift shop started changing the prices on the Griffey shirts (50% off) about 5 minutes after I heard the news.
