ESPN and The Associated Press last week identified the 13 members as Barry Alvarez, Mike Gould, Pat Haden, Tom Jernstedt, Jeff Long, Oliver Luck, Archie Manning, Tom Osborne, Dan Radakovich, Condoleezza Rice, Mike Tranghese, Steve Wieberg and Tyrone Willingham.
The committee will be responsible for selecting the four teams that advance to the College Football Playoff beginning after the 2014 regular season, as well as ranking and placing at-large teams in the noncontract New Year's Day bowls (Cotton, Fiesta and Chick-fil-A).

(78,249 posts)Osborne served in Congress as an (R). Rice's (R)-ness is self-explanatory. And Archie Manning's elder son Payless is a huge repuke donor; it's likely that the apple didn't fall far from the tree.
Also, Rice is the only woman; is she also the lone African American?

(9,709 posts)Also, I don't understand what a person's politics has to do with whether or not they are fit to be on the selection committee..
Condoleeza Rice is a big time Stanford supporter..meaning she should be good for supporting the interests of the Pac-12..

(78,249 posts)the fact that I can likely identify three of the 13 as repukes, and none as Dems, points to this committee being an extension of the repuke oligarchy.

(9,709 posts)I really don't care about the individual committee member's political beliefs. Or what they may or may not have done politically in the past.
Unless in some way it's affecting their selections it shouldn't matter..

(4,528 posts)this is the worst ever. I hate to say it but it may be worse than the BCS. I heard colin on ESPN. He nailed it. get the best 6 sports books in Las Vegas. They would get it right.

(47,565 posts)As dangerous as this sport is you think it is a good idea to expand the post-season? If you follow any teams you will notice many season ending injuries and other injuries that never go reported, you may also notice players falling in the draft due to their injury history or because they couldn't perform in the combine due to injuries. Many teams will be stretched too thin towards the end of the season and players will have a greater chance of having their careers cut short but what your worried about is having more teams who will eventually lose try to play for a title they won't win, not to mention they won't be getting any of the millions it will bring in.
