Alex Cobb had an outstanding outing. That one big hit just eluded Cleveland batters.

One could argue Rays probably had earned top seed anyhow based on the strength of the schedule. Having to play in the Eastern Division is no picnic. But that's baseball. It's hardly ever equitable.

The Tribe finished one game behind the Tigers, and they played the same teams. So I wouldn't be so quick to generalize the season with "can't beat a team with a winning record." They beat the teams they had to and secured the Wild Card.
