Cleveland wins A.L. Wild Card on Jimenez’ 13k outing -- hosts playoff

Sweeps Minnesota for MLB record seven four-game sweeps in one season.

Finish September 21-6, winning their last 10.

Terry Francona -- Manager of the Year!

By the way, about that series sweep record. 1961, when the Yankees swept six series, was an expansion year ...

The Angels and Senators were new teams (the original Senators were moved to Minnesota and became the Twins). And yes, the Yankees swept three series against those teams.

Four-game series sweeps, and total number of losses of each team:

1961 Yankees:
Twins (2): 90
White Sox: 76
Angels: 91
Cleveland: 83
Senators: 100

2013 Indians
Athletics: 66
Mariners: 90
White Sox (3): 98
Astros: 110
Twins: 96

Yankees did it without the Designated Hitter.

This is a valid record.
