NEW YORK -- The United States Tennis Association says a retractable roof will be constructed over Arthur Ashe Stadium, the main venue for the US Open.
The USTA says it will reveal design plans for a makeover of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center at a news conference Thursday.
The plans call for a roof on Arthur Ashe Stadium, along with two new stadiums and a plaza where fans can view practice courts.
The USTA has been considering putting a roof on Arthur Ashe Stadium for years to limit weather delays, but officials have said they had not found a cost-effective way to do it.

I guess that just leaves the French wihtout a roof...although I think the US Open needs it more...late August can be very wet in NYC..plenty of times the finals take place later than planned because of all the rain.

(34,119 posts)I will be happy to see this. I have never even priced tickets to go but I would imagine they can well afford this on ticket profit alone.

(56,177 posts)I want that to stay exactly as it is...
Thing about having it at the Open is that it's only a 2-week tournament and only one day of rain can really set the whole thing back quite a bit...not like a baseball season that goes on forever and there's planty of time to make up a few games.
