Former Texas women’s track coach files discrimination charge
Former Texas womens track coach Bev Kearney has actually filed an EEOC and Texas Workforce Commission discrimination charge against her former employer, her attorney said Saturday morning.
Kearney, who won six national championships at Texas, resigned on Dec. 28 after the disclosure she had an intimate relationship with an athlete in her program in 2002.
Derek Howard, who represents Kearney, told the Statesman he filed the gender and race discrimination suit with the federal and state agencies last Tuesday but added he has not tried to reach a financial settlement with Texas. He said he met once with attorneys for Texas and UT System attorneys for about an hour in February.

Howard told the Statesman on Saturday that his complaint will reference Texas football co-offensive coordinator Major Applewhite, who admitted to an inappropriate consensual relationship with a female football trainer in 2009 and was reprimanded and had his salary frozen as a result after it came to light within a month after the event.
