Denver Broncos defensive end Elvis Dumervil agreed to a reduced salary, but was released by the team after the paperwork for the new contract was not filed with the league office in time, according to sources.
Dumervil's 2013 salary of $12 million was set to be guaranteed at 4 p.m. ET, but he agreed to take a cut to $8 million.
According to a source, both parties reached agreement at 3:25 p.m. on the restructured contract. But the team did not get a fax from Dumervil's agent until 4:06 p.m., so they had to release him, according to the source.
Previously, Broncos team president John Elway called Dumervil's contract "out of whack."
"It's not all about dollars. But when it's way out of whack? Then it's so out of whack that you've got to say: That [salary] can't be it," Elway had said Thursday, according to the Denver Post. "Especially when you look at the market and what's out there now. It's so far out of whack. Hopefully, he realizes that."

I'm hearing that he was in a Kinkos trying to fax the signed contract in time. You think that with the millions he has that he could afford his own fax machine?

I heard that Elvis didn't place the signed contract face down on the fax machine.

Elvis Dumervil already has replaced his agent with Peyton Manning's agent. But, like the fax, it was too late coming.

Magid naturally blamed the Broncos for the monumental mistake. John Elway naturally blamed Magid and Dumervil. Everybody, including NFL executives, should be blamed for using old-world fax technology when legal contracts can be scanned and sent on computers or iPads, with signatures, within seconds. It should be noted that, according to Mapquest, a FedEx Kinko's is located 3.5 miles from Dumervil's (second) home in a Miami suburb. What took him so long? Magid could have purchased his client a copier-fax-printer-scanner for $99. Or Elvis could have been at his (first) home minutes from the Broncos' facility and appeared in person.
