(16,113 posts)with my grandfather who was a huge ND fan, but I don't think they stand a chance in the SEC Invitational Bowl (aka BCS championship game). The BCS champ this year will be from the same conference as the last 6 champions... most likely from the same state. I think Georgia will give Alabama a better game than ND will.

(11,797 posts)But since I like animals, I went for Georgia. This is saying something about my hatred of Notre Dame, as I am 2nd generation Irish-American.

(65,191 posts)And they had no games against the Little Sisters of the Poor. Both Georgia and Alabama did. Div 2 schools. Really?
I think you underestimate the achievement of ND. And, no i'm not a fan. Didn't go there, don't have friends or family that did.
Just going by the avilable information.
Carnage251
(562 posts)ND and Bama both played Michigan, Bama won 42-14 a margin of 28 points, ND won 13-6 a margin of 7 points.
ND went to 3 overtimes to the bad team Pittsburgh, on that field goal the Pitt kicker missed two ND players with the same number were on the field at the same time which is a penalty, if it would have been called and the kicker made the second kick ND would've lost.
Also they played Wake Forest and Boston College those teams are "little sisters of the poor".
If Bama beats the dogs there is no way ND will beat them.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)ND played 2 really, really bad teams...Bama had five...I know you're blinded by your allegiance to those asshats down south, but at least try and make sense.

(56,177 posts)Who are you asshats?
TZ
(42,998 posts)Maryland. And Ohio State. Half my family is from Ohio, went to OSU or some other Ohio school but Miami of Ohio and Case Western Reserve aren't really football schools.
My asshats are ND, Michigan and in basketball mainly Duke
Oh and how could I forget Old Miss is not on my asshat list after their racist scum behavior after the election. I think we can all agree on that one!

(42,998 posts)I was totally disgusted by the Tressel worship at the game the other day. He's the effing reason they aren't going to a Bowl. Its almost as disgusting as the Paterno defenders. Almost.

(56,177 posts)And yet people still defend him. Blah!

(4,449 posts)Just two really, really bad teams? There are several really, really bad teams on ND's schedule.
Navy. Awful. They should be a 1-AA school.
Boston College. Boston College lost to Army. That's like being beaten by a 1-AA school.
Pitt. Did I mention being beaten by a 1-AA school? Because that's what happened to Pitt.
Wake Forest. Wake Forest is horrendous. They only beat Liberty by 3. That's right, they barely beat Faldwell College.
Purdue. Purdue sucks. The only B1G teams they beat were Iowa, Indiana, and Illinois. The 3 I's. You know, incompetent, irrelevant, and just plain ill. They lost to Minnesota. You can't lost to the Gophers and not suck.
All 3 teams that are vying for the national championship played 2 good teams, one decent team, and a bunch of bottom feeders. Alabama played Texas A&M, LSU, Michigan, and a bunch of pansies. Georgia played Florida, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and a bunch of posers. Notre Dame played Stanford, Oklahoma, Michigan, and a bunch of posers. I have no doubt that any combination of Florida, LSU, Texas A&M, or South Carolina would best Oklahoma and Stanford. On the other hand, I also think Michigan's better than Vanderbilt. The rest of the opponents of all 3 teams rank from, well, rank to ghastly. Don't sit there and act like playing Wake Forest, Boston College, Pitt, and Navy is somehow an elevated schedule compared to Kentucky, Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, and Georgia Southern, because it isn't.
Notre Dame has simply not played a team that has close to the defensive speed and power that either Alabama or Georgia has. I know you're blinded by your hatred and sheer jealousy of the absolute chokehold that the SEC has on the rest of the nation, but at least try and make sense.
joeybee12
(56,177 posts)More SEC bullshit from the blinded worshippers...some of the teams on ND's schedule weren't good, but the SEC schedules high school teams annually...no fucking comparison.
GaYellowDawg
(4,449 posts)It's not bullshit. That's not a strong schedule that ND played. Every year, people like you claim that the SEC has blinded worshipers, and every year, the SEC keeps smashing everyone else. We are worshipers with 20/20 vision; our conference has earned its place at the top. Every year, the nation keeps trying. You go back to the origins of the BCS in 1998 and when an SEC team reaches the title game, it goes like this:
1998. Tennessee 23, Florida State 16
2003. LSU 21, Oklahoma 14
2006. Florida 41, Ohio State 14
2007. LSU 38, Ohio State 24
2008. Florida 24, Oklahoma 14
2009. Alabama 37, Texas 21
2010. Auburn 22, Oregon 19
2011. Alabama 21, LSU 0
The only time an SEC team has lost in the national championship game, it took another SEC team to do it! We are absolutely the best conference, playing the best football, with the best players and the best coaches.
Over the past decade, the traditional Big 6 of the conference - Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, and Tennessee - are 17-9 against the Big Ten, 36-15 against the ACC, 10-6 against the Big XII, 12-6 against the PAC-12, and 9-7 against the Big East.
And when you pit our best against the best of other conferences... well, all-time, no one else stacks up.
Bowl games
SEC 398
Big XII 344
ACC 313
Big Ten 266
PAC-12 244
Big East 127
Bowl wins
SEC 207
Big XII 166
ACC 158
Big Ten 126
PAC-12 124
Big East 66
Bowl winning percentage
SEC .538
Big East .528
PAC-12 .520
ACC .513
Big XII .488
Big Ten .479
Weren't you the Iowa fan? How's that working out for you? Are you enjoying trying to live vicariously through Notre Dame? As your conference brings up the tail end of the BCS conferences in winning percentage, perhaps your divisions should have been named Lousy and Losers. The SEC demonstrated conclusively that the Big Ten doesn't belong in the national championship picture, so perhaps that's where your grudge comes from.
We own the nation. We OWN it. You know it. Everyone on the board knows it. Everyone in the nation knows it. Now, Notre Dame is a good team. I'll admit that. They've got a good defense, with a very good front 7. And Teo is a great linebacker. Notre Dame could win the national championship... but I wouldn't bet the house on it.
JonLP24
(29,322 posts)than Georgia in defeating Alabama. ND has a championship caliber defense while Georgia is closer to "above average". Georgia does have the nation's best passing game but my whole point is ND has a very good chance rather than no chance.

(4,449 posts)They did lose, and it'll be yet another SEC national championship. Suck it up and deal with it: the SEC is the best conference.
Oh, and not nearly all of us are Irish now. Unlike most of you posers, I actually have Irish ancestry, but to hell with them and their leprechaun. I am a proud Georgia fan, and if we lose to Alabama, I'll be yelling "Roll Tide" at the screen in January so that the Irish and their 20+ years of complete irrelevance and mediocre B1G/ACC schedule can sink back into the "receiving votes" category this time next year.

(2,654 posts)If there were a system like the Final Four for college football, I might get into it. As it is now - a popularity contest based on polls - it is just like selecting a pageant queen. I voted for Theee Ohio State U. simply as a protest against the NCAA and the B(C)S system.

Sorry, not a huge Dawg fan, either. Your coach has a nasty habit of calling team prayer meetings at his public institution. Which would not leave me much to choose from between them and Touchdown Jesus.
