The Giants are expected to announce today that Melky Cabrera, currently serving a 50-game suspension for testosterone use, will not be part of the Giants' postseason roster, CSNBayArea.com has learned.
Cabrera, a switch-hitting left fielder, had a .346 average and was leading the major leagues in both hits and runs scored when his positive test was announced Aug. 15. The Giants have gone 25-12 since the suspension while cruising to the NL West title.
Cabrera would have been eligible to play in the Arizona instructional league beginning Saturday

The right move..looking at their record without him. Also, bringing Cabrera back could cause problems in the clubhouse...some players have voiced support, others haven't been quite so generous. And as an added plus, Giants fans won't have to listen to other teams and their supporters whining..

(31,204 posts)the Giants are a better team with him, basically nobody in LF now. Melky let the organization down though..and there's a question of clubhouse chemistry were he to return. Best to go with what they've got.
Imagine how much better their chances would be if this had never happened. We saw the Giants dream lineup once...looks like it may end up being another year of what could have been.

Must have hope momentum from earlier in the month stays with the team. I'll forget Tim's start yesterday and cross fingers that he, Zito, and Vogelsong (last start) were not recent flukes. I also have tremendous faith Bruce Bochy and Dave Righetti and all the other coaches and scouts will do the same fantastic job they did in 2010 of getting this team ready.
