(20,365 posts)So there are a few pitchers who can hit. BFD. How many hundred of pitchers can't hit?
And by making the pitchers hit, will they magically get as good as other players? In another universe maybe.

(45,984 posts)Besides, you should know by that doesn't work for you. The DH is worth a puny half a run per team per game. That's all. Deal with it.
And you are correct that pitchers can't hit. Tell us something we don't know. That is exactly why baseball is better than DH-ball. You got a weak hitter coming up in a crucial situation, so what do you do? Lift him? Or let him stay in the game because his other skills are valuable, perhaps enough so that it's worth sending him to the plate. It's move not unlike those that we chess players make. Each one has upsides and downsides. Do you send up a pinch hitter or don't you?
That is baseball. Taking that decision out of the manager's hands makes it a lesser game. Changing the rules to satisfy unsophisticated fans who equate high scoring with excitement -- and then only getting half a run per team per game -- is like sacrificing one's Queen for some insignificant extra space on the flank. It's a blunder. And so is the DH.
