(1,439 posts)But I like watching a bunch not-usually-televised sports in week 1. Judo, wrestling, weightlifting, and archery are all fun to watch.

(73,593 posts)I have watched some soccer, too. Some of the athletes are amazingly talented. And I enjoy watching all of the Olympic competition. But boxing is definitely #1 for me.
I hope that everyone else is enjoying the Olympics, too.

(5,478 posts)that I'd really like to see. NBC has the coverage locked up, and has very little of the coverage on the schedule. What is there is mostly on NBC Sports Network, or MSNBC, with nothing scheduled for the on-the-air coverage on NBC. This year should be especially interesting since there is an American woman, Kim Rhode, who has the chance to become the first American to win a medal in an individual sport in 5 straight Olympics (in Women's Skeet).

(12,336 posts)The battles between Lochte and Phelps could be interesting indeed. Although to be honest, I'll be interested to see how team USA basketball does against the rest of the world. I will root for LeBron and the boys, but ir would be interesting to see if anyone can play them close. A team like Spain for instance. Yeah I know Team USA blew out Spain in a recent exhibition, but I don't think Spain was going all out.
DinahMoeHum
(21,806 posts)There's a stand-out player on Team USA I look most forward to watching in action.
Her name: Destinee Hooker
I first saw her on TV re the NCAA title match against Penn State (and vs. another stand-out player and now teammate Megan Hodge) a few years ago. She and her fellow Texas Longhorns nearly pulled the upset against the then-2-time defending champs PSU. After seeing this match (which went the distance, a full 5 games, and PSU getting the 3-peat in national titles), I thought, wow, I hope I see both of these players on the national team at the Olympics. Well, that day has come.

Can't get over that name! I can just see her fans in the stands possibly waving a banner every time she makes a spike-kill saying "Destinee Rides Again - Hook 'Em, Horns". I know I would.

Terrific Penn State team, they had a hell of a winning streak going on when that match took place. Kept it alive in a great match.
I went back to a thread I posted I noticed you saying the exact same thing. Brazil is tough so far.

(11,700 posts)was the off the beaten path events like archery, skeet shooting, track cycling and others. Now it's main events and nothing else. When they added more channels I thought they'd show more. But no, more of the main events with the hosts spinning hokey melodrama.

(9,893 posts)I have Comcast, and I'm trying to get it set up so that I can watch all the 8s.
I also have to confess an interest in Equestrian. I know all about the business with Mrs. Rmoney's horse, but I really wanted a horse when I was young. Jumping and Steeplechase are my faves.

Anything equine, because my horses are curious.
Men's gymnastics, because one of my students is a fierce local competitor.
I don't know that I'm "looking forward" to them, since I may not get to the tv. No big deal.
I guess the only events I have an interest in are those that have a personal connection.
